Cross-Cultural Mentoring:  Let's Bridge the Gap

Presented By: Royce Carpenter

The workshop will teach interpreting professionals and students to analyze their thoughts concerning cross-cultural mentoring.  Nuances and dynamics of diverse ideas, language, perspectives associated within and outside of their own cultural norms will be addresses.   Ethical decisions related to discussing culturally relevant issues in the Black Deaf and Black hearing communities and how they impact the interpreting process and consumer satisfaction would be explored.  The workshop will teach techniques for cross-cultural mentoring conflict resolution.

A total of .65 Professional CEUs.

Continental breakfast, beverages, lunch and snacks provided.

NoCRID is committed to creating a fully accessible conference.  Attendees will communicate in ASL only.  The venue will be accessible to all people and will have gender neutral bathrooms.  Please refrain from using any and all scented products due to chemical sensitivities/allergies.

Registration Pricing Structure  NorCRID is funded solely by membership, donations, CEU proceeds and proceeds from conferences and workshops.  Thank you for your generosity as you consider what you can pay for this conference.

You will notice the pricing structure is set up differently than it has in the past.  This structure aims to accurately reflect the cost of hosting the conference while also being able to offer it to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

Price for Deaf people and ASL Students - Without Deaf people there would be no interpreting profession.  We are enriched by having Deaf people join us while we strive to become better interpreters.   ASL Students - you are the future!

Patron - We have added a Patron option for those able to offer more than the full conference price.  By selecting this option, your generosity helps cover the costs of those who may not be able to pay the full price of the conference.     This option is anonymous.  Only the person processing registration will know the names of Patrons.

Pay What You Can - We have added a Pay What You Can option.  Minimum entrance is set depending on when you register.  You have the option to pay more than the minimum at check out.  This option is anonymous.  Only the person processing registration will know the names of people who use this Pay What You Can option..

John McBride Scholarship Fund   NorCRID members unable to pay the minimum fee may request a John McBride Scholarship.  The John McBride Scholarship Fund (JMBSF) was established in 1997 in memory of John McBride and in recognition of his practice of donating part of his income to sponsor an emerging professional to attend the conference.   Details of this fund is found at www.norcrid.org in the membership section.  Current NorCRID members can find application details by logging into their NorCRID account.

If you are unable to meet the listed pricing, please contact us to discuss your current needs.   We depend on volunteers for all of our programs.  Please contact Juan Ramirez at trilingualterp829@gmail.com.
